Stephen Decatur | Early 1800's | Navy veteran Commodore Stephen Decatur was testing cannons when he saw the Jersey Devil. He claimed to have fired a cannon directly at the creature but it went right through it and had no effect. | Joeseph Bonepart | 1820 | in 1820 Napoleon Bonaparte’s older brother Joseph also apparently spotted the Devil. He was hunting in New Jersey when he apparently spotted the creature. Others also noticed suspicious footprints in the area, leading to widespread panic. |
Louis Strehr | 1909 | Officer Louis Strehr of the Camden Police Department saw the Jersey Devil drinking water from a horse's trough. A different officer named Merchant from the Blackwood Police Department drew a now-famous sketch of the creature based on the sightings from that week as well as his own sighting of the creature. A man from Salem also saw the creature and described it as having wings and a tail. |
Greg Hill | 2005 | Mr. Hill took a trip to the Barren Pines in search of the Jersey Devil, encountering a strange creature that ran from them as soon as it was within their sightline. |
Dave Black | 2007 | A resident of little harbour was taking a drive on Route 9 , saw a strange creature flying near the road. When he tried to follow it and capture footage, it let out a howling screech and flew into the thick New Jersey Brush. |
